What $800,000 Buys You in Chicago

This week in What X Buys You, UrbanTurf takes a look at properties that recently came on the market for around $800,000 to give readers an idea of what type of home is available in this price point in Chicago.

This four-bedroom home in the Ukranian Village has a box-like exterior with windows resembling a Tetris game. Inside, the feel is decidedly contemporary with geometric shaped rooms, gray and white walls, a sleek kitchen, and hanging light fixtures. The home also has a master bedroom with his and her closets, a finished basement that can serve as a media or rec room, a large deck that can fit a party of 20, and a two-car garage.

  • Full Listing: 2053 West Huron St. (map)
  • Price: $799,900
  • Bedrooms: Four
  • Bathrooms: 3.5
  • Year Built: 2011
  • Listing Agent: Ivona Kutermankiewicz, Koenig & Strey Real Living

Built in 1926, this three-bedroom Gold Coast condo on the Gold Coast has classic (crown molding, wood-paneled foyer) and modern (updated, retro-chic alley kitchen) throughout. While it probably doesn’t convey, UrbanTurf is a fan of the pad’s decor, from the zebra-striped chairs in the living room (see above) to the Colonal-style master bedroom with French doors. There is a patio, but unfortunately, no parking.

Along with its convenient location near the intersection of Irving Park Road and Lincoln Avenue, this 3,879 square-foot listing has many of the same luxuries that one would find in a large, single-family home — four floors, a large master bedroom which can fit an entire couch, plenty of bathrooms, and a two-car garage. But what makes this pad stand out is its kid-friendly interior, which includes a family room with a chalk board wall, a girl’s bedroom that looks like a space Barbie would sleep in, and a boy’s bedroom decked out in a cowboy/sports theme.

The property over at 2134 West Irving Park Rd. is a great building.  We worked on a project a few years back in that building and the family was easily able to raise their 2 children in this beautiful city home.

If you have a family, want to live in the city and this falls within your budget, check this home out.

The only downside is you are right on Irving Park, which can get a bit noisy and dusty.
