The Morse Red Line Stop

In this week’s View from the El, UrbanTurf checks out real estate around the Morse Red Line stop in the far north neighborhood of East Rogers Park. Rogers Park has a reputation as being one of the most culturally diverse neighborhoods in the city, and that diversity extends to the area’s real estate as well. The housing stock around the Morse Red Line stop largely consists of vintage multi-flats and rehabbed lofts and condos, and the area’s proximity to the lake and easy access to the north suburbs as well as the relatively quick commute to the Loop contribute to its desirability.

We start our real estate tour with a two-bedroom, four-bath duplex penthouse condo at 6924 North Sheridan Road. A warning that this is a bank-owned property, but the 3,500 square-foot unit has sky-reaching 20-foot ceilings in the living room, a wet bar, a second kitchen on the top level, a number of skylights, and a six-person hot tub. It is listed for $575,000.

Described in the listing notes as a “phenomenal loft in a perfect location”, this 1,700 square-foot three-bedroom, two-bath unit at 1225 West Morse Avenue comes on the lower end of the price spectrum, listed for $299,000. It has exposed beam ceilings, floor-to-ceiling windows, and a large storage locker and heating garage parking included in the listing price, and it is about a half block from the Lake.

For buyers looking in the sub-$200,000 range, there are also options around the stop. A one-bedroom in a 1920 Tudor-style building at 1354 West Greenleaf Avenue is listed for just $121,000, and has a formal dining room and a large walk-in closet that the listing notes suggest could also be used as an office nook.

Available for $165,000, the two-bedroom, two-bath unit has in-unit laundry, custom blinds and window treatments, a cable TV mount over the fireplace, and California closets.
