With apartment high-rises taking over River North, it should not be surprising that new restaurants have pegged the area as a good location to open up shop. NBC Chicago reported today that celebrity duo Bill and Giuliana Rancic have paired up with Lettuce Entertain You’s RJ, Jerrod and Molly Melman to open RPM Italian in the old Ben Pao space at 52 West Illinois St. (map).

Restaurant location

The name of the 10,000 square-foot modern Italian restaurant comes from the first initials of the last names behind the new space: Rancic, Melman and chef Doug Psaltis, who is spearheading the menu. Giuliana’s mother, Mama DiPandi, will be contributing in the kitchen and E! News reported that Giuliana is designing the staff uniforms.

The restaurant, which is scheduled to open in late January, will be close to many of the new River North apartment complexes, including the 49-story AMLI River North tower at Clark and Hubbard Streets (map) and the 34-story K2 at K Station at 365 N. Halsted Street (map).
