Frank Lloyd Wright Historic District Expanded in Oak Park

New boundaries include homes highlighted in blue and newly added homes in red
Oak Park’s Frank Lloyd Wright Historic District now covers a lot more territory as the boundaries were expanded to include 444 more homes on Tuesday, the Chicago Tribune reported yesterday.
From the Tribune:
The expansion brings the total number of homes in the district to 1,934. Of those, 1,728 homes – or 89 percent – are considered historically relevant to the area. Discussions about updating the district’s boundaries began in 2005, Oak Park Urban Planner Doug Kaarre said, largely because the district’s boundaries drawn in the early 1970s were not documented in line with current historic district standards.
Even though Oak Park hopes to preserve the neighborhood’s distinctiveness (mainly the Prairie School style homes that encompass the area), some residents fear that it will restrict their plans to update and/or expand their homes.
